In February 2018, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Canadian government would look to develop an Implementation and Recognition of Indigenous Rights Framework with First Nations, Inuit and the Métis Nation. Canada says it is perusing this policy framework to ensure it upholds its constitutional obligations regarding Indigenous rights, and supporting the advancement of reconciliation.
The Assembly of First Nations held a national forum on the framework from September 11-12, 2018. Below is a copy of a discussion paper that AFN Yukon and the Council of Yukon First Nations developed ahead of the national forum, with a Yukon-specific and Modern Treaty analysis on the framework.
